All The Books That Made Me Go “NOPE” Tag

ARE YOU READY READY FOR THE TEA TO BE SPILLED?
Because we’re about to do the damn thing with this one.

This tag is pretty self explanatory and I am SO excited to let my inner saltiness shine through. I feel like I was born for this.

A huge thank you to Natalie over at nwteenliterati for tagging me in this. Make sure to check out her blog and show her some love!

NOW LET’S SPILL SOME TEA

NOPE. Ending: a book ending that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage or simply because the ending was crappy.

33843362

I did a review on this one earlier on my blog and I am still SO bitter about this ending. I mean I pretty much felt like I read this book for nothing because literally NOTHING HAPPENED when it came it the end. There was zero resolution so all my hours of speculation was for naught. Hands down, my most disappointing read of 2018 so far.

NOPE. Protagonist: a main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

Laia, from An Ember in the Ashes, is THE ACTUAL WORST. LOL, she’s just so unlikable to me. She’s annoying and timid and whiny and scared and, like, okay, I understand you go through some scary things in the story but I still just can’t stand her. Which is a shame because I actually love these books so much.

Nope. Pairing: a “ship” you don’t support.

I’m again going to mention the above book. Laia and Elias. Why is that even a thing? Why are we wasting our time when clearly Elias belongs with Helene. That’s just straight facts I’m giving you. If it doesn’t happen you better believe my salty ass will be crying for weeks.

Also, here’s a little bonus and that is August and Kate from the Monster’s of Verity duology. IT’S A NO FROM ME DAWG. A HELLO NO.

One more for good luck, Jace and Clary from TMI are the absolute WORST together. There I said. I’m not even remotely sorry.

NOPE. Plot Twist: a twist you didn’t see coming and liked.

The first plot twist that ever left me #SHOOKETH and still ruins me every single time is Dimitri becoming a Strigoi in the Vampire Academy series. While I didn’t necessarily like him being turned into a Strigoi it brings us to my all time favorite part of the series where Rose hunts Dimitri down, Dimitri kidnaps Rose, and Rose escapes and thinks she killed Dimitri but you know my man is still alive. Y’all BETTER BELIEVE I still live for that battle scene between the two of them. It gives me life every. single. time. I love it.

NOPE. Genre: a genre you will never read.

If fan-fiction counts put my name at the top of the list. I couldn’t even tell you why, I just have zero interest or desire to ever dive into that

NOPE. Book Format: book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition.

I hate audiobooks and will never buy them because my attention span is worse than a goldfish. I’ll start an audio book and then the next thing I know 4 hours has gone by and I couldn’t even tell you the MC’s names let alone what the actually story was about.

NOPE. Trope: a trope that makes you go NOPE.

I’m going to have to pick the same answer as Natalie, and that’s insta-love. More like insta-yuck, am I right? I LOVE ME SOME SLOW BURN LOVE. The kind of love that makes you want to rip your hair out by the time the characters say hello. The kind of love that leaves you sweating after reading a conversation between them. The kind of love that has you screaming JUST DO IT ALREADY for 75% of the book, and you’re only talking about kissing if ya know what mean.

NOPE. Recommendation: a book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read.

15507958

This book and movie seemed to be such a hit for most people but for me it’s just a straight NOPE. I know what it’s about, I know what happens, and yet you still couldn’t pay me to read it.

NOPE. Cliche: a cliche or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

You guys, I swear to god if I read the saying “she let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding” ONE MORE TIME I WILL QUIT READING. No I won’t, but you get the point. WHYYYY must my eyes have to read that saying over and OVER again. Pls make it stop.

NOPE. Love Interest: the love interest that’s not worthy of being one

Basically any billionaire male protagonist by Jodi Ellen Malpas. Because there is literally NOTHING worse than emotionally abusive men and I will fight anyone who says they aren’t. You NEVER hide or dispose of your significant others birth control just because YOU want to have a baby. That’s a hard limit and I will NEVER let that go. And you also never hurt your significant other in a physical altercation for talking to another man. AGAIN HARD LIMIT. I’m not sure how anyone thinks those guys are worthy of love.

NOPE. Book: a book that shouldn’t have existed. a book that you just don’t like.

EDT_Strange_the_dreamer_cover_Super_Portrait

SUPER UNPOPULAR OPINION TIME. This was a snooze fest.  Stranger the Dreamer was literally 300+ pages of fluff and while I did initially really enjoy this book by the end my eyeballs and brain were fried.

Low-key added Muse of Nightmares to my TBR though. I mean, guys, I’m not blind the cover is gorgeous so maybe it will redeem Stranger the Dreamer.

NOPE. Villain: a villain you would hate to cross.

Again, I’m going with the book mentioned above and go with Minya. She was a villain, right? LOL see what I mean about my brain being fried, I don’t even know. I remember her being super angry and intimidating and wanting to kill everyone and plus she’s little so what’s more terrifying than an angry child? Even though she wasn’t really a child? AGAIN I DON’T EVEN KNOW. But yeah, she scared me.

NOPE. Death: a character death that still haunts you.

I WILL ABSOLUTELY NEVER FORGIVE SARAH J. MAAS FOR KILLING SAM, THAT IS ALL.

Also, add the Darkling to the list but I don’t think he’s really dead so please only pencil him in.

NOPE. Author: an author you had a bad experience reading for and have decided to quit.

As of right now I have quit Marie Lu books. I’ve read The Young Elites and Warcross and didn’t really care for either of them. Maybe one day I’ll pick up more books from the author but I have a never ending TBR to tackle first!

Now that’s enough salt for one day!

Next up for the tag is:

Erin from Undercover Binge Reader

Amber from ambsreads

Lacey from Lacey Paris Books

Until next time!

  1. I hated Genuine Fraud! It is on the “Books I Thought I Would Love But Didn’t” post this year. I really hate to see Strange the Dreamer on this list. It is on my TBR, but I haven’t been in the mood for it yet.

    1. I’m still so upset over Genuine Fraud, I wanted to love it but it was just missing so much! You might love Strange the Dreamer my opinion is on the super unpopular side haha! There were parts of it that were absolutely amazing but it was so slow and overly descriptive in other parts that held me back from getting into it. I’m going to give Muse of Nightmares a shot eventually, hopefully it will work better for me but definitely give it a try, so many others have loved it!

      1. Yeah Strange the Dreamer seems like a massive book! I was worried it was overly descriptive. I look at it when I go to the library and I’m always scared by the size!
