Blogtober: Book Recommendations

HAPPY OCTOBER!! ๐ŸŽƒย ๐Ÿ‘ปย ๐Ÿ‚ย โœจ

Let the best month of the year begin! It’s October 1st, Kim Petras just dropped a brand new “spooky pop” album, Halloweentown is on, and I am in my GLORY!ย Today we are serving full spooky vibes here and we’re kicking off Blogtober with some of my recommendations to get you in the mood for all things fall/Halloween!

Lets dive in!

Spooky/Atmospheric Reads

Backlist & Recently Released Titles

First and most importantly on the list is Sawkill Girls. This is the perfect amount of creepy, atmospheric, and mystery all wrapped in one. Add of sprinkle of LGBT characters and you have one of my favorite Halloween reads EVER!

While this wasn’t my favorite “spooky” read, it still get’s the job done and has all the slasher movie vibes. ย There’s Someone Inside Your House is a book filled with lots of murder so it’s easy to fly through in one sitting. Plus, there is a haunted house/corn maze running from the murderer part, so that was fun!

I love me some witches!
These Witches Don’t Burn not only has tons of witchy elements, but it also takes place in Salem. Do you need any more of a reason to add this to your TBR?!

The Devouring Gray nails the spooky, atmospheric vibes! Pitched as Stranger Things meets The Raven Boys this book has a lot going for it. From the setting, to the diverse cast in terms of POC and sexuality, the beast that lives in the woods, and the founding families backstories it’s easy to find something to love. For anyone who loved The Vampire Diaries and the town of Mystic Falls I highly recommend checking this one out.

Y’all this book right here gave me the straight CREEPS!
I remember staying up late to finish this book after I devoured it in one sitting and then immediately regretted it because I was legitimately scared. I pulled one of those “turn off your lights and sprint to your bedroom as fast as you possibly can” moves. So yes, this is a perfect book that will creep you the F out this Halloween.

While this one might not be the creepiest, it is definitely a perfect read to cozy up to this fall! The Grace Year is filled with all the autumn vibes with talk of magic and other unknown elements in this that will have you flying through it in no time. This book comes out October 8th, and I’m just saying this is going down as one of my favorite books of 2019!

I have less than 100 pages to go in Ninth House and so far, I’m really loving this! There’s a lot of world-building, explanation of rituals, and talk about all the societies that practice magic in this book so I will admit it can be a little on the slower side at times, but I think it’s actually working really well for this story. I would recommend reading this at your own risk since it is on the darker side and does contain several topics that can potentially be triggering to readers.

That’s all for today, see you tomorrow!

Stay spooky ๐Ÿ–ค

  1. Great recommendations ๐Ÿ˜ I’m definitely planning to read These Witches Don’t Burn this month! I loved The Grace Year and I honestly did find it quite spooky (but I am the ultimate chicken). But I really wasn’t expecting it so I think that spooked me even more ๐Ÿ˜‚ Glad to hear you’re loving Ninth House. Can’t wait to read it too!

    1. Thank you!

Keep me posted on your thoughts of These Witches Don’t Burn! It’s one of my favorite 2019 reads! I could definitely see how some might find it spooky or creepy so don’t worry haha! If it makes you feel better I can read scary books with no problem…but when it comes to movies NOPE! I can’t do it haha.
