Series Review: Fortuna Sworn & Restless Slumber

Hi, friends! ✨

Today we’re doing something a little different and talking about not one but two books in today’s post! Fortuna Sworn is a newer fantasy/paranormal series that has been blowing my mind lately so I wanted to talk about the first two books that are available now in the series. If you love action packed books with enjoyable characters, funny banter, magic, lots of tension, and all the paranormal creatures you could imagine then look no further!

Let’s dive in!

We were meant to be seductive. We were designed to lure humans in.

Fortuna Sworn is the last of her kind.

Her brother disappeared two years ago, leaving her with no family or species to speak of. She hides among humans, spending her days working at a bar and her nights searching for him. The bleak pattern goes on and on… until she catches the eye of a powerful faerie.

He makes no attempt to hide that he desires Fortuna. And in exchange for her, he offers something irresistible. So Fortuna reluctantly leaves her safe existence behind to step back into a world of creatures and power.

It soon becomes clear that she may not have bargained with her heart, but her very life.

What’s to Love

✨ So many paranormal creatures. Y’all this series is PACKED to the gills with paranormal creatures. We’re talking witches, fae, nightmares, necromancers, demons, werewolves, sirens, even zombies! If you’re like me and love anything paranormal this will truly fill your heart with glee. Plus, I mean with fall right around the corner you can’t go wrong.

👸🏻 A badass imperfect main character. Fortuna is a very headstrong character and honestly I love that about her. She makes brash decisions and will deal with the consequences later and often times leads with her heart instead of her head. She’s extremely overprotective of those she cares about and empathetic to those that are suffering. Overall, I think she’s an extremely well-written, fleshed out character and because of that it instantly makes you like her.

💖 Romance. Helllllllo slow burn, how are ya? The romance between Fortuna and the Seelie King is a lot to handle. It’s soft in a way that Collith wants to get to know Fortuna after marrying her – just a tad bit backwards. But the tension? WHEW the tension between the two of them is through the roof.

👫 Protective siblings. Fortuna and her brother Damon may not have the best relationship with one another in the first two books but its growing and getting there which I can appreciate it. However, when push comes to shove and one of them is in danger the other always steps up to the plate no matter what and we love to see it.

🍂 Autumn vibes. I know I mentioned this before but I’m going to say it again since fall/spooky season is right around the corner. These two books are perfect to add to your TBR this fall. Not only do we get all the paranormal creatures but also some good ol’ atmospheric autumn vibes as well since it’s that time of year in the books.

📈Action packed books. Both of these books have so much going for them that it makes them hard to put down. Even though the first book wasn’t as action packed as the second it still did a great job of introducing the world to readers before shit hit the fan. Then book two comes around and was just absolutely explosive. I’m still trying to recover from it. Something also worth noting is that both of these end on a cliffhanger so…. good luck!

Things to Know Before Starting

🙅🏻‍♀️ This is not YA. If you’re looking for a YA fantasy…this ain’t it.Fortuna Sworn & Restless Slumber both fall within the Adult age range. They basically read like a more mature version of ACOTAR with a dash of True Blood vibes.

☠️ Trigger warnings & darker themes. It’s best to know before going into this series that it does touch upon darker themes and triggering topics. I can honestly say that the second book is significantly darker than the first so it’s important to make sure thats something you’re aware of prior to picking these up. The author does have trigger warnings in both books and so far the list contains: toxic relationships, forced marriage, slavery, violence, gore, rape, car accidents, loss of a loved one.

Which book is my favorite so far?

Hands down, Restless Slumber (#2) is my favorite of the series so far! From the first page until the very last book this book was nonstop. Even though this book did take a much darker turn I cannot wait to see where the rest of series will take Fortuna and the rest of the gang. If you need me I’ll just be crying until the third book comes out in December!

Until next time,
